POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Maintenance Journeyperson is to maintain all machines ensuring they are in good, safe working order for continuous production. The accurate completion of tasks and documentation supports our BRC Food Safety and Quality Program. This specific position will play a key role in operation of the egg grading machinery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Ensure all documentation is maintained through all outlets, including the MaintainX CMMS.
- Update and maintain MaintainX work orders, ensuring employees are effectively using MaintainX.
- Maintain the egg grading machine to ensure it is in good, safe working order.
- React promptly to problems with the machine, resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
- Manage the preventative maintenance program designed to keep down-time to a minimum, ensuring there is an adequate supply of spares to replace broken or worn-out machine parts.
- Monitor the egg grading machine, visually inspecting components while running and troubleshooting any problems that are detected.
- Start-up and shut-down the machine as required.
- Operate mobile equipment as required.
- Assist others as needed, ensuring continual running of the machine.
- Ensure employees are following established HACCP (Food Safety), biosecurity, and health and safety procedures.
- Ensure all food safety issues are communicated with Plant Manager, Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, and/or QA Manager.
- Ensure contractors comply with outside contractor sign-off.
- Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
- Train apprentices as needed.
- Live by the company’s mission, vision, and values.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
- Other duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor or Plant Manager.
Electrician
- Perform preventative maintenance for all egg grading equipment.
- Responsible for maintenance-related issues on/with the 530-Grading Machine.
- Responsible for maintenance-related issues on/with the BVM Wrapper.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Grade 12 education with strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills required.
- Electrician Trade ticket required.
- Minimum of 4(four) years Journeyman experience.
- Completed courses in electronics, computers and/or welding considered an asset.
- Experience servicing and maintaining processing and packaging line equipment in a production environment preferred.
- Experience using computer applications, programs, and operating mobile equipment.
- Good rapport building with other tradesmen and suppliers required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude: skilled at troubleshooting machinery required.
- Knowledge developing preventative maintenance programs, including training and operating procedures.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to provide clear, concise instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision, follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize work required.
- Ability to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time.
- Analytical problem solving required (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and then working out the most effective way to resolve it).
- Maintenance workers rely on others to see and hear problems as they occur; therefore, they must be able to carefully coach and encourage staff to gain understanding about the nature of a problem.

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL
- Work in compliance with divisional and legislative health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
- Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
- Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
- Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
- Participate in all required health, safety and environmental training.
- Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
- Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
- Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
SWP (Safe Work Procedures)
Pre-Operation
- Inspect required PPE and replace if necessary
- Put on all required PPE
- Inspect machinery and mobile equipment for functionality and operational safety mechanisms
During Operation
- Practice proper lifting techniques
- Take frequent breaks in accordance with company policy/procedures
- Workers must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other causes
- Workers must be aware of first aid locations
- Workers must be aware of fire extinguisher locations and operating procedures
Post-Operation

Ensure equipment (PPE), machinery, and mobile equipment is fully disengaged, cleaned, stored, and maintained appropriately
Rotating schedule; 5 8hr shift
Opportunity for overtime
Minimum: 40.00 hours weekly
