THE POSITION
The Executive Director, Foundations & Community Impact provides strategic leadership and oversight for Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation’s (CSEC) charitable, community investment, and community engagement initiatives. Responsible for leading the Calgary Flames Foundation, Calgary Stampeders Foundation, Calgary Hitmen Foundation, Calgary Roughnecks Foundation, and the organization’s Community Relations function, this role is accountable for advancing community impact while supporting the strategic objectives of the organization.
The Executive Director is responsible for establishing strategic direction, ensuring sound financial stewardship, driving fundraising and partnership growth, supporting effective governance practices, and leading a high-performing team dedicated to delivering meaningful outcomes throughout Calgary and Southern Alberta.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the strategic vision, priorities, and annual operating plans for the Foundations and Community Relations portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to enhance community impact, stakeholder engagement, and organizational reputation.
- Establish performance measures and evaluate outcomes to ensure programs deliver meaningful and measurable results.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to Foundation Boards and organizational leadership.
Financial Stewardship & Governance
- Lead the planning, management, and oversight of Foundation and Community Relations budgets.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of Foundation resources and compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements.
- Support Foundation Boards through effective planning, reporting, and governance practices.
Fundraising, Partnerships & Community Impact
- Develop and execute fundraising and revenue-generation strategies to support Foundation priorities and long-term sustainability.
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with donors, sponsors, community partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee community investment initiatives and ensure the impact of Foundation contributions is effectively measured and communicated.
- Lead the organization’s Community Relations strategy and programs across all brands.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Foundation and Community Relations team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute as a strategic member of the broader leadership team.
THE INDIVIDUAL
- Post secondary education in Business, Commerce, Public Administration, Communications, Non-Profit Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a charitable foundation, non-profit organization, community investment, corporate social responsibility, fundraising, or related environment.
- Media training or equivalent considered an asset.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic plans and leading organizational initiatives.
- Proven experience managing budgets and organizational resources.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors and supporting strong governance practices.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnership development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
