Senior Governance & Regulatory Advisor
About the role
FortisAlberta is seeking a strategic and forward‑thinking Senior Governance & Regulatory Advisor to help shape and strengthen our governance, compliance, and privacy programs! In this role, you will work across the organization to ensure strong governance frameworks are in place to support regulatory obligations, business priorities, and sustainability commitments. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will partner with leaders to embed compliance into day‑to‑day operations, enhance program effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement. Job Description: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise governance and compliance frameworks. Partner with business units to embed governance, compliance, and sustainability considerations into operations and initiatives. Oversee the corporate privacy program, providing guidance, education, and advisory support to stakeholders. Monitor regulatory developments, industry trends, and best practices and recommend program enhancements. Lead compliance risk assessments and support the development and execution of mitigation strategies. Establish and manage monitoring and reporting frameworks to assess program performance and effectiveness. Prepare and present compliance reports for senior leadership and the Board of Directors. Manage policy governance processes and support compliance activities related to regulatory requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus a minimum of seven years of experience in governance, compliance, or privacy. An equivalent experience may be considered. Experience with data analytics is an asset. Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management principles, and compliance practices. Experience working in a regulated environment, with utility or energy experience considered an asset. Proven ability to influence stakeholders and build consensus across diverse teams. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and present to senior audiences.
Important Information: Permanent, full-time role. Monday – Friday schedule. Hybrid role, with opportunity to work 2 days per week from home. Based out of our Calgary office location. This role will be moving to our Airdrie office location in 2027. Some light travel will be required for the role (<5%).
