Program Overview – Dare to Care

Dare to Care is a unique and vibrant charitable organization that has been at the forefront of bullying prevention programming since 1999. We are a national award-winning program which has surpassed 1,000,000 participants in our school-based program across Canada. Since 2018, we have expanded to work with Canadian amateur sport organizations and have become leaders in the Safe Sport Movement.

Job Description – Sport Program Specialist

The Sport Program Specialist plays a vital role in expanding Dare to Care’s impact on sport organizations and communities. This position combines workshop facilitation, community outreach, relationship building, and communications support. The successful candidate will represent Dare to Care both online and in person while delivering high-quality educational experiences.

Training

Familiarizing yourself with all of the Dare to Care workshop scripts; including our online school modules, our coach/management workshop, parent workshop, and age-appropriate athlete workshops. Observing a Senior Dare to Care facilitator for approximately 10 workshops (the total number will be at the discretion of the Executive Director and/or the Sport Program Coordinator). These workshops will be a combination of in-person and virtual delivery. Probation/Training period will be deemed over after a successful solo workshop delivery evaluated by the Executive Director (or another Senior Facilitator).

Workshop Facilitation: (60%)

Delivering workshops independently once the training process is complete, with continual guidance and mentorship from the Sport Program Coordinator and Executive Director. Working directly with the Sport Program Coordinator to book and deliver workshops throughout the year. The Sport Program Specialist is expected to deliver a minimum of 50 workshops within the scope of Dare to Care’s fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements (to be reimbursed by Dare to Care). Submitting invoices to the Sport Program Coordinator in a timely manner. Completion of post workshop survey after each and every workshop delivered. Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly facilitator meetings (virtual). Attend bi-annual staff & facilitator retreats (winter & summer).

Outreach: (20%)

In collaboration with the Sport Program Coordinator, identify and connect with new clients and sport organizations. In collaboration with the Sport Program Coordinator, schedule and coordinate logistics for workshops with clients across Canada Potential attendance at various events/conferences on behalf of Dare to Care

Development: (20%)

Conduct research on bullying trends in sport environments to stay current and relevant in the Safe Sport Movement and to ensure programs remain current, relevant, and evidence-informed. In collaboration with the Sport Program Coordinator and the Executive Director, support the development of new workshop content. Working with the Marketing Lead, contribute to content ideation including social media posts, blog articles, and podcast episodes by identifying relevant research, studies, and statistics. Support the Sport Program Coordinator with administrative, operational, and program-related tasks as required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

A degree or diploma in sport related industry will be prioritized

A degree and experience in education will be considered an asset NCCP certification is preferred Must have experience in the sport sector (Athlete, Coach, Official, Management, etc.)

Experience with public speaking

Experience in conflict management/mental health/community building/bullying prevention will be prioritized Ability to present in English and French is preferred Must be available weekends and weeknights Must be available to travel out of town – with notice Access to own transportation for local and out of town workshops Ready to provide a vulnerable sector and criminal record check upon request Basic understanding of Google Suites, Zoom and Microsoft PowerPoint

Working Conditions

Location

Dare to Care works with sport organizations across Canada. While coach and parent workshops may be delivered virtually, all athlete workshops are delivered in person. The Sport Program Specialist will be required to travel, primarily on weekends, to facilitate these workshops. Office hours are completed remotely, and all approved travel expenses related to workshop delivery will be reimbursed by Dare to Care.

Compensation

Annual compensation ranges from $48,500–$62,500, which includes compensation for 50 mandatory workshop deliveries each fiscal year. Outside of workshop delivery, the position is based on a 35-hour work week focused on outreach, planning, scheduling, research and development, and other duties as assigned. Any workshops delivered beyond the initial 50 mandatory workshops will be compensated at a rate of $250 per workshop. These additional workshops are considered work beyond the position's regular annual responsibilities and are compensated separately from the employee's regular salary.
