The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for an Inclusion Camp Leader in the Arts & Culture department for the summer of 2026. This position will start approximately June 22, 2026, for a period up to September 4, 2026, and can work up to 40 hours a week.
To qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2025/2026 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2026 fall term (normally starting in August or September).
Job description:
The Inclusion Camp Leader will be responsible for assisting with the inclusion of campers of all abilities and needs in summer programs to ensure their personal and developmental needs are adequately met. The Inclusion Camp Leader is responsible for providing appropriate assistance to summer camp staff and participants in developing a safe and welcoming environment designed to foster friendships, promote social interactions, and enhanced participation.
Essential responsibilities:

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies

Work directly with campers needing extra attention on a 1:1, or 2:1 basis to enhance participation and create a fun camp experience

Adapt program plans and daily schedules for campers with inclusion needs

Correct and redirect inappropriate camper behaviours
-
Communicate daily with team members to ensure inclusion is properly facilitated
-
Responsible for daily reporting of any concerns to the supervisor and dealing with preliminary problem solving

Enforce all administration policies and rules as well as all safety guidelines governing the program participants

Effectively communicate with parents / guardians as issues and needs are identified

Exercise discretion and confidentiality with parents / guardians, staff, children and management

Responsible for the clean-up and storage of all equipment
Essential qualifications:
This position will be subject to receiving student subsidy funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Program to be eligible to apply to this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
-
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
-
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
-
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
-
Preference will be given to those enrolled in or graduated from a related post-secondary education program
-
Preference will be given to students in fields related to the adapted physical activity in recreation and child education (ex. Nursing, therapeutic recreation, education)

Knowledge of program adaptations and behaviour modifications techniques
-
Experience working with children and youth
-
Experience communicating with children, staff, parents in a child supervised environment

Basic computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)
Certifications, memberships, licenses:
-
Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved) prior to camps opening
-
Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development prior to camps opening
Background check
Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment.

- Bending: frequent stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, squatting (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (kneeling, crouching, squatting while communicating with children; bending while preparing for activities; bending while cleaning up activities; bending while packing up materials)
- Walking: frequent walking on rough surface; constant walking on level surface (walking throughout duration of program at program facility/park)
- Reaching: frequent reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, backward, handling (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (reaching for program material for program set-up/ take down; -lifting participants in cases of emergencies)
- Lifting: frequent lifting at shoulder, carrying, transferring; constant lifting floor to waist, waist to shoulders (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (lifting program material for program set-up/ take down; lifting participants in case of emergencies; lifting while cleaning after activities)
- Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (standing while delivering programs; standing while preparing for activities; standing while cleaning)
- Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement) (using hands to deliver programming; using hands for daily administrative tasks (filling in reports, attendance, logbooks, etc.)
Benefits
This summer student position has an hourly starting wage of $18.03 and will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
