We invite applications for the temporary position of:
- 1.0 FTE Grades 8-12 Life Skills Support Teacher
- Located at Mark R. Isfeld Secondary
The Life Skills Support Teacher will work as case manager and teacher for students with low incidence designations and complex behavioural and learning profiles. They will support and work closely with classroom teachers, Education Assistants, the District Inclusion Support Team, community agencies and families.
Education/Coursework requirements:

Degree in Special Education (i.e. post-secondary degree or diploma program with special education concentration).

Completed coursework designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in the areas of students with special needs, learning disabilities, strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum, differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Ability to case manage & support ministry categorized students
-
Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience working with secondary students with complex support needs.

Working knowledge, supported by course work and experience, of the special needs arising from autism spectrum disorder, moderate to profound intellectual disabilities, chronic health impairment, and students with dependent handicaps.

Ability to design and implement individualized programs to meet specific student needs.

Ability to develop and instruct functional and life skills curriculum including independent living and employment readiness skills.

Ability to plan and implement social communication and executive functioning programs.
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, parents and community professionals.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with parent/guardian(s), community partners and the Inclusive Education District Support Team.

Ability to assume a leadership role with both teachers and paraprofessional staff and to provide training and problem-solving support.

Knowledge and ability to implement computer programs with special education technology to support student achievement.
