About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. Role Overview/Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Hoist Electrician to join our Underground Mining Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of mine hoisting systems and associated electrical equipment including the shaft area surface facilities. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of personnel, material, and production hoists within a mining environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mine hoist systems and related electrical infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, control systems, braking systems, and hoist instrumentation.
- Conduct inspections and testing in accordance with applicable mining regulations, hoist standards, and company procedures.
- Maintain and calibrate safety devices, limit switches, encoders, sensors, and interlocks.
- Diagnose electrical faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Support statutory inspections and documentation requirements for hoisting equipment.
- Participate in commissioning, upgrades, and modernization projects related to hoist systems.
- Complete maintenance work orders and inspection reports within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Work closely with hoist operators, planners, and other trades to optimize equipment reliability.
- The hoist electrician will also be responsible for the care and maintenance of the shaft area substation, E-house, admin building, Water Handling facility, propane farm and all other shaft area electrical equipment.
- Work with 44KV, 13.8KV, 600V and low voltage applications.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Licensed Electrician (Construction & Maintenance 309A, Industrial 442A, or equivalent trade certification).
- Minimum 3–5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
- Experience with mine hoists, shaft equipment, or heavy industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazard assessments.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
- Previous underground mining experience.
- Hoist electrician certification or experience maintaining production and service hoists.
- Completed all of the hoisting plant training modules for electricians.
- Completed Hoisting logbook training
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Schneider PLC’s DCS and other control systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS software such as SAP
- Working at Heights, and Underground Common Core certifications.

- Pay or shift range: $45.60 CAD to $58.57 CAD
