About the role

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Finance, Procurement and Planning is responsible for financial reporting, institutional financial planning, procurement, investments and treasury and risk management and insurance. In Institutional Financial Planning (IFP) we are responsible for overseeing the budgeting, forecasting and modeling processes of the University. In addition, we administer the software platform, Onestream, in order to accomplish this work.
Finance, Procurement and Planning is responsible for financial reporting, resource planning, procurement, investments & treasury, and risk management & insurance. We have a team of service partners who work closely with the faculties, units and staff across the institution to provide excellent client service.

Drive innovation and automation of various processes and functions within the enterprise budget and forecast system to ensure maximum efficiency and areas for development and improvement.

Lead the development, enhancement and implementation of the EPM software in alignment with the institutional budget planning framework and processes.

Support of ongoing maintenance and development of budget processes and procedures, and ensuring these are communicated and available to end users and senior administration.

Work collaboratively with the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis to come up with budget process enhancements from either the software side and propose solutions that the EPM software can help support.

Preparing the EPM software for the annual planning cycle to ensure data is loaded and users can access required components prior to the start of the planning cycle.

Ensuring the EPM software functionality is available for all users, including: opening/closing the system, validation of data loads and security.

Act as the primary liaison with IST and IDA to maintain structural alignment of the EPM software with enterprise systems and ensure data integrations and integrity/security (PeopleSoft (PS) Financial, HCM and the Data Warehouse) e.g. PS tree and chart of accounts.

Set up and communicate an annual calendar of major budget events for the users of the EPM software.

Lead the design and development of the reports which provide consistent management reporting and align with the evolving institutional reporting framework as needed.

Develop and implement training for the users of the software.

Work with the Software partner and the university's resource to develop a long term road map of increased functionality.

Develop a timeline and implementation schedule to execute on the roadmap.

Establishes and fosters a strong, cohesive and high-functioning team focused on results and built on trust, robust dialogue, collaboration, commitment and accountability.

Assign and manage the workload of the functional analyst. Provide sufficient job duties to help them with their own career goals. Give timely mentoring and coaching feedback as required.

At least five plus years of related experience is required, some of which should be in a key leadership role.

Budget development and fiscal management, including accounting and/or finance practices and procedures.

CPA required and EPM software experience strongly preferred.

Ability to understand key business issues and identify/implement financial solutions improving the system or processes to support the business.

Ability to effectively manage large projects and obtain buy-in from key-user functions over which there is no direct reporting authority.

Strong acumen with key business and financial concepts and tools (e.g. budgets, operating expenses, capital expenses, financial statements, Microsoft Excel and other Office products, financial software suites).

Builds a culture of service and stewardship. Identifies needs of end users, internal/ external stakeholders and establishes, monitors and continuously improves business processes to meet requirements.

Experience managing a team and providing coaching, mentoring and performance management.
