Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) District ELL Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Learning Services and would include working with ELL students at designated schools on a regularly scheduled basis based on district needs, both with in town and rural schools. This position will be dependent on ELL enrollment.
The ELL Specialist Support Teacher provides language assessment services that align with the Ministry of Education & Childcare ELL Policy and district practices, review planning and development of programming as well as reporting on ELL student progress.
The successful applicant would support school-based ELL teachers and classroom teachers with the design and implementation of the student's language acquisition plan. Working in schools with teachers, students and school based teams, planning and delivery of workshops and inservices are part of this role.
Providing direct ELL support in assigned schools and delivery of the school-based ELL program to students will include direct teaching of students, co-teaching and collaboration with classroom teachers.

Qualifications and Experience
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Experience working with students with complex needs
- Level B assessment certification, or willing to obtain
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate and able to use a variety of applications for classroom instruction and required tasks
- Ability to participate in meetings, workshops and inservices within and beyond the regular school day to support student learning and/or teaching development
- Ability to travel to all schools in the district; reliable vehicle to drive in winter conditions
- Commitment to working with colleagues on staff development activities linked to the District FESL
- Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
- Experience in leadership roles at the school level & experience working with adult learners is preferred
- Training in ELL methodology and appropriate approaches to teaching ELL or additional language acquisition coursework/experience as laid out in the BC Ministry of Education & Childcare Policy guidelines
- Cross-cultural communication, strategies, understanding and sensitivity training would be an asset
- Strong understanding of curriculum and supporting second language learners
- Ability to work as part of a team to develop, implement and support on-site ELL teacher with AIP development, implementation and assessment
- Ability to plan, organize, and deliver in service sessions for ELL district teachers that build capacity development in ELL in conjunction with curriculum team members
- Ability to attend meetings & host inservices outside the regular school day
- Experience and training in balanced literacy approaches, literacy assessment and literacy across learning areas K-12

Compensation
-
$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.

$3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952

Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
