About the role
Global Wealth & Asset Management (GWAM) is the global asset management arm of Manulife and provides fee-based wealth solutions to retail, retirement and institutional customers around the world. The Manager, Operational Risk Management, will be responsible for assisting the Head of Risk for GWAM’s North America Retail and Operations lines with their mandate to implement and execute an effective risk governance management program, and to oversee business and functions’ operational risk mitigation activities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the asset management industry across various asset classes (fixed income, equities, derivatives, alternative investments) and vehicle types such as separate accounts, mutual funds and ETFs. In addition, the candidate will have solid experience in an Operational Risk Management framework for a large financial institution. Position Responsibilities: Assist in the collection of information from the business to prepare reporting to risk committees, management and executive teams as well as other key stakeholders such as regulators and the board of directors. Review and analyze risk data to assess the risk exposure within the business and function. Support the creation and delivery of metrics and reports that meet risk and business needs and provide meaningful information to management. Support the Risk Officer and team with tracking and analysis on mitigation and oversight activities. Review and support the Risk Officer and team on operational risk event management and subsequent corrective action tracking. Assist with Oversight and Challenge activities related to the Manulife operational and resilience risk management framework, including risk and control assessments, operational risk events, change risk, third party risk, business continuity and key indicators. Coordinate with other GWAM Risk teams on reporting and analysis on corporate risk programs to support risk governance activities across GWAM. Build strong relationships with other risk team members to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient management reporting. Contribute to other Risk Management initiatives and projects. Support the development of a strong risk culture and work with the business to reinforce accountability and transparency across the organization. Handle ad-hoc requests or inquiries with timely responsiveness and attention to detail. Utilize artificial intelligence and other tools where appropriate to aid accomplishing and strengthening results of work assigned. Required Qualifications: 4+ years of experience in risk management or other oversight functions, or in the retail or investment operations lines within the wealth and asset management industry. Strong working knowledge of the wealth and asset management industry and familiarity with the current regulatory environment and the risks facing financial institutions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, logic and critical thinking skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to collect, analyze, and present data and information from various sources, and to identify and articulate key points. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi stakeholder environment and manage multiple priorities. Willingness to challenge conclusions and proposed actions with a focus on reaching the appropriate end result within the risk appetite. Collaborative team player with a positive, proactive attitude. Strong ethical and moral compass. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint and CoPilot). Experience using artificial intelligence tools for more efficient and effective results. Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. Referenced Salary Location Halifax, Nova Scotia Working Arrangement Hybrid Salary range is expected to be between $79,700.00 CAD - $129,700.00 CAD Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
