About the role
Responsibilities
Lead all plant operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production while meeting quality, food safety, and customer requirements. Oversee production, maintenance, engineering, utilities, warehouse, and sanitation functions. Ensure the safe operation of boilers, pressure vessels, refrigeration, and utility systems in compliance with TSSA regulations. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and optimize operational performance. Maintain compliance with food safety standards, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements. Develop and manage plant budgets, capital projects, and maintenance programs. Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and plant personnel while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to achieve operational objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
Valid 2nd Class TSSA Operating Engineer Certificate. Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within the food and beverage industry. Strong knowledge of boiler operations, steam systems, refrigeration, utilities, and preventive maintenance programs. Demonstrated experience leading food safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SQF, TSSA regulations, and Ontario health and safety legislation. Proven leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Engineering degree, technical diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience is considered an asset.
