In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Quality division is currently hiring for a First Line Manager, Inspection Services (NDE). The First Line Manager, Inspection Services (NDE) within the Quality division is responsible for the supervision of an inspection facility and technicians performing NDE of pressure boundary and non-pressure boundary components and systems. They will coordinate work to support station planning as required and provide technical evaluations, considerations and recommendations as applied to the performance of such inspections. The successful incumbent will prepare reports, procedures and inspection techniques & review as needed. Lastly, they will assist in the preparation of and participate in training programs and provide coaching and mentoring of employees and other direct reports. Key Responsibilities: Supervise technicians performing NDE of various nuclear station components on pressure boundary and non-pressure boundary systems, welds, supports, lifting equipment and other equipment as designated using radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, surface, optical/visual or other methods in both outage and non-outage situations. Be responsible for and maintain a radiographic and/or other NDE facility. Prepare detailed technical reports when required to cover results of work completed. Be responsible for maintaining an accurate documentation system to support inspection activities. Arrange for and control routine maintenance, functional testing and calibration of assigned NDE equipment. Prepare reports and maintain records of maintenance and repair of NDE equipment. The types of equipment involved may include ultrasonic flaw detectors and thickness measuring equipment, magnetic particle equipment, dimensional gauging equipment, optical comparator/shadow graph equipment, photographic and television equipment, radiography equipment, including x-ray/gamma-ray sources, a radiographic film processing unit, and other inspection associated equipment. Ensure that adequate materials are available to prevent delays in services provided. Provide research and input to identify equipment needs when necessary, and assist in the preparation of relative proposals and justifications. Maintain stewardship of assigned tools, work equipment and facilities. Provide support to other sections and units to carry out inspections and assessments as necessary. Select and assign work to technicians with safety and efficiency in mind. Prepare and deliver JSA's as needed, pre-job and post-job briefings to technicians as defined and required by company procedures. Monitor work executions to ensure safety, policy/procedure compliance, quality, timeliness and productivity, and take action as appropriate. Act as the contact for the Section regarding audits, program management related to radiographic sources with the CNSC. Validate time and cost reporting inputs. Monitor and prepare performance reports of key indicators. Resolve work scope or procedural issues arising during work execution. Control and coordinate assigned inspection program activities. Communicate and function with the local TSSA inspector as required to facilitate timely completion of code related activities. Prepare or help prepare proposals for review and approval when it is necessary to employ contractor assistance to augment inspection staff. Prepare or help prepare work schedules when required to support unit outages for review and approval. Participate in the initiation and progression of training programs to further own development and that of subordinates including coaching and mentoring. Develop training material, present lectures, set and mark examinations as required. Compile, maintain and issue the organizations nondestructive examination procedures and governance. Lead a team in reviewing and accepting vendor inspection procedures ensuring inspection requirements are met. Participate on industry code, standard and technical committees including CGSB 48.9712, CSA N285B Technical Committee, EPRI NDE evaluation program, COG NDE Working group. Assist as required to gather and collate data for use in Section/Department budget preparation, monitor budget variances and submit findings to Section Manager for reporting purposes. Perform other duties as required. Skills and Knowledge: Extensive knowledge Pressure Boundary (PB) and NDE inspections. CGSB Level II certification in at least four disciplines is essential. CGSB Level 3 certification in at least 1 method is preferred Knowledge of quality/control requirements and the regulatory codes and standards Knowledge of the PWU collective agreement and to corporate/site procedures. Leadership and management skills. Observational skills. Education and Experience: This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 2 years' further concentrated study. A period of over 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience. Are you ready for a change?
