About the role
Corporate Tax Compliance
Oversee the preparation and review of corporate income tax filings for multiple legal entities. Ensure accurate completion of supporting tax schedules and related disclosures. Coordinate partnership tax reporting requirements, including applicable information returns and partner reporting. Manage foreign asset reporting obligations and other specialized compliance filings. Prepare calculations and reporting related to interest deductibility limitation rules and other emerging tax legislation. Review indirect tax returns and ensure compliance with applicable GST/HST regulations, including rebate opportunities and adjustments. Maintain comprehensive tax calendars and ensure all filing, payment, and instalment requirements are met.
Tax Advisory & Planning
Provide guidance on tax-efficient corporate structures, financing arrangements, and business transactions. Assess the tax implications of dividends, shareholder transactions, capital asset activity, and financing strategies. Conduct technical tax research and prepare supporting documentation for complex tax matters. Partner with external advisors, legal counsel, and stakeholders on planning initiatives and special projects.
Audit & Regulatory Matters
Act as a key liaison with taxation authorities regarding audits, reviews, and information requests. Coordinate responses to tax examinations and prepare supporting analysis and documentation. Maintain well-organized records to support compliance and audit readiness. Recommend enhancements to tax governance, reporting processes, and internal controls.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Participate in monthly and annual close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entry preparation. Assist with year-end audit requirements and external reporting deliverables. Support the preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages. Contribute to process improvement initiatives and strengthening of accounting controls. Provide guidance and oversight to less-experienced team members when required.
Qualifications
CPA designation preferred. Strong corporate tax experience, ideally involving multi-entity organizations. Knowledge of corporate, partnership, and indirect tax compliance. Experience dealing directly with CRA audits, reviews, and correspondence. Strong analytical, research, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
