We're looking for a Senior Commodity Buyer to take full ownership of a critical commodity portfolio, with a strong focus on steel, aluminum, metals, and glass. This is more than a purchasing role-it's an opportunity to influence sourcing strategy, build long-term supplier partnerships, monitor commodity markets, and drive cost savings while ensuring uninterrupted supply for a fast-paced manufacturing operation.

What you'll be doing
- Own the sourcing strategy for key commodities including steel, aluminum, glass, and other direct materials
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans that support cost, quality, delivery, and long-term supply continuity
- Build and manage strong relationships with both domestic and international suppliers
- Lead RFQs, supplier negotiations, contract management, and long-term agreements
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends, tariffs, and global supply risks to proactively support the business
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while improving supplier performance
- Partner with Production, Engineering, Planning, and Quality to ensure material availability and support production schedules
- Manually track inventory and material movement to ensure production continuity and inventory accuracy
- Maintain purchasing records, reporting, and cost analysis using ERP systems and advanced Excel
What we're looking for
- 5-7+ years of commodity buying experience within a manufacturing environment
- Proven experience purchasing steel, aluminum, metals, and/or glass is required
- Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic sourcing initiatives
- Experience sourcing from both North American and international suppliers
- Hands-on experience with tariff mitigation and navigating cross-border sourcing challenges
- Strong negotiation, supplier relationship management, and contract administration skills
- Experience managing long lead-time commodities and developing sourcing strategies
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reporting, and data analysis) are required
- ERP/MRP experience (JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, or similar) is considered an asset
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
