Here's What We're Looking For
BrainFinance is seeking an experienced Director of Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering Officer to lead and continuously strengthen our enterprise compliance, financial crime prevention, and regulatory governance programs.
As our business continues to grow and expand its lending and payment solutions, we are looking for a strategic leader who can ensure the organization remains compliant while enabling innovation. This role will be responsible for operating our compliance and regulatory program, including the Anti-Money Laundering (AML/ATF) program for our credit card program and payment activities.
You will play a critical role in protecting BrainFinance from financial crime, regulatory risk, fraud, and reputational exposure. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help integrate compliance into product development, payment operations, and business strategy while fostering a strong culture of ethics, integrity, and responsible growth.
Your Daily Responsibilities
Act as BrainFinance's designated anti-money laundering officer and oversee the AML/ATF compliance program; Own and maintain a dedicated AML/ATF and sanctions compliance framework in line with Canadian (FINTRAC) requirements and lead registration as a money services business with FINTRAC; Oversee and build the team responsible for customer identification, transaction monitoring, AML investigations, sanctions screening, reporting (STRs, regulatory filings, etc.); Manage the compliance requirements of the credit card program with our sponsor bank, including card-network rules and the sponsor bank's anti-money laundering requirements; Drive the company's obligations as a registered payment service provider under the Retail Payment Activities Act, support and operationalize the Operational Risk Management Framework; Supervise Privacy Impact Assessments and Third Party Risk Assessments; Support privacy compliance, including compliance with privacy requirements in Quebec; Work directly with payment partners, banking partners and processors on onboarding, reviews and compliance requests; Partner with Legal, Product, Engineering, Operations and Credit Risk to ensure compliance is embedded into new and existing products and business initiatives; Lead the development, implementation, and enhancement of BrainFinance’s compliance program, policies, procedures, and controls; Lead audits, internal compliance reviews, effectiveness review and remediation activities; Lead training and awareness initiatives related to regulatory compliance and AML/ATF obligations; Advise senior leadership on regulatory developments and emerging compliance risks; Ensure compliance documentation is current, well-organized, and aligned with business activities and regulatory expectations ; Build and promote a strong culture of ethics and compliance across the organization.
Your Skills And Experience
Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field; 7+ years of experience in Compliance, AML, Financial Crime, or Regulatory Affairs in payments, fintech or regulated financial services; Strong understanding of: FINTRAC and Canada's anti-money laundering regime (PCMLTFA) Customer due diligence, sanctions screening and transaction monitoring Money services business and payment service provider obligations The Retail Payment Activities Act (Bank of Canada) Card-network operating rules and payment scheme compliance Comfortable operating independently with minimal supervision; Experience leading regulatory audits, building compliance programs, and enterprise risk initiatives; Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
