Job Title: Scala Developer

Location: Montreal,QC Job Type: Contract Position Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications and data processing solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Scala, Apache Spark, functional programming, distributed systems, and microservices and will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable applications using Scala. Build high-performance data processing and distributed computing solutions using Apache Spark. Develop and integrate REST APIs and microservices. Work with Kafka and other messaging technologies for real-time data processing. Apply functional programming principles to build clean, maintainable, and reliable code. Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Data Engineers, and Architects to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions. Participate in architecture and technical design discussions. Troubleshoot application and production issues and implement performance improvements. Develop unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews. Work within Agile/Scrum teams and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and delivery. Support CI/CD processes and cloud-based application deployments.

Required Skills

5+ years of software development experience with strong Scala expertise. Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing. Solid understanding of Functional Programming concepts. Experience developing Microservices and REST APIs. Strong experience with Kafka or other messaging/event-streaming technologies. Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases. Experience with Git, Jenkins, Maven/SBT, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud platforms. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Akka, Play Framework, Cats, ZIO, or similar Scala frameworks/libraries. Experience with Hadoop, Hive, Databricks, or other Big Data technologies. Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or MongoDB. Experience in financial services, banking, payments, or investment banking is a plus. Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
