Our client is a growing private equity firm that supports SMEs in their development, acquisition, business transfer, and governance projects. Backed by prominent Montreal-based business families active both locally and internationally, the firm leverages their expertise to help entrepreneurs succeed.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the successful candidate will be responsible for all accounting, financial, tax, and treasury activities for three investment funds and the management company (general partner). The Financial Controller’s role is divided between two complementary areas: financial management of the funds (60%) and strategic projects and continuous process improvement (40%).
Tasks
Accounting Responsibilities (60% of the role)
- Manage the full accounting cycle for the three investment funds and the management company;
- Participate in investment valuations and fair market value assessments;
- Prepare financial statements and quarterly and annual reports for investors;
- Coordinate capital calls and investor distributions;
- Participate in employee payroll processes;
- Manage cash flow and treasury activities;
- Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory obligations (sales taxes, income taxes, tax slips);
- Coordinate the annual audit process and tax reporting;
- Prepare financial analyses, strategic presentations, and respond to requests from investors and their advisors.
Strategic Projects & Continuous Improvement (40% of the role)
- Collaborate with the investment team, business partners, and external service providers;
- Contribute to the optimization of tools and processes to improve operational efficiency;
- Participate in the integration of artificial intelligence solutions into financial practices;
- Perform all other related duties.

Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an SME environment or in a firm serving SMEs;
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA designation;
- Strong command of the full accounting cycle;
- Solid understanding of Canadian taxation (income taxes and sales taxes);
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint;
- Advanced level of English to respond to investor inquiries approximately 40% of the time.
Salary: Above market rate + comprehensive benefits package
Schedule: Day shift, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
