The duties and responsibilities of this position may be subject to change, further to confirmation of transfer payment details from the Ministry of Education.
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Learning Support Services (LSS) and the supervision of the Principal and Manager of LSS, the Itinerant Teacher - Blind and Low Vision will collaborate with a central team, school based teams and members of LSS to develop and implement inclusive education practices for students with a variety of exceptionalities.
In this position, educators will require an understanding of the fundamental principles of inclusive education and identifying ways to remove barriers while supporting all learners within a community school.
OCDSB ELEMENTARY CONTRACT teachers (full-time, surplus, teachers interested in transferring) are equally eligible to apply for this OCDSB vacancy, posted internally on ApplyToEducation, for which they are qualified and capable. The position is subject to annual budget and funding approval. The position is an itinerant position, therefore, travel throughout the district is required on a daily basis. Access to transportation is mandatory.

Required and Additional Qualifications:
qualification Blind Low Vision Education Part 1 and Part 2 (Specialist considered an asset); Contracted Braille qualifications in Special Education (an asset); demonstrated experience and expertise in special education teaching and learning strategies in the primary/junior/intermediate divisions, with senior division experience an asset; experience and expertise with current programming strategies (accommodations, modifications, alternative) to meet the needs of students with special education needs; specifically for students who have low vision or who are blind; knowledge and expertise of current assessment/evaluation strategies and procedures specific to students who are blind/low vision; experience, expertise, and strong understanding of the Ontario Curriculum, Differentiation, Universal Design for Learning, Learning for All, and Tiered Intervention across the divisions; knowledge and understanding of the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans, including IEP Online (IOL); knowledge of SEA (Special Equipment Amount), specialized equipment, and assistive technology appropriate for a variety of special needs learners.
Qualifications
To be eligible to apply, you must be employed as a contract teacher in the elementary panel with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board at the time of application. Candidates must have Part III qualifications in Special Education. Intermediate - senior qualifications considered to be an asset.
Term
While there is no term end date for this position, it is subject to annual funding and budget approval.
Salary
Your salary is based on your grid salary/allowances. There is no additional allowance tied to this position.
Selection Team
The Interview Committee will consist of System Principals of Learning Support Services. The Interview Committee will review all applications received and produce a list of candidates to be interviewed. Candidates will be advised via email if they have been selected for an interview.
Right Of Return
Elementary teachers retain the right of return to their home school for three years, subject to surplus/redundancy provisions. Following a term of more than three years, elementary teachers shall be subject to the transfer/placement process. French elementary teachers shall have right of return to French assignments only. Teachers on our occasional teaching roster will have right of return to the OT list only.
