𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 Sude Gunes 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁! 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗲: Sude Gunes joined the lab in March 2026 as a joint PhD student affiliated with both UGent (CompOmics, VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology) and VUB (Bio2Byte). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and Master's degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from Izmir Institute of Technology in Turkiye. 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗲’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝟮𝗕 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗢𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀: Sude's work focuses on post-translational modifications (PTMs), protein structures, and conformational variability. By combining mass spectrometry-based PTM identification with molecular dynamics simulations, she aims to uncover how PTMs influence protein structure, function and dynamics, providing mechanistic insights into their roles in cellular processes and disease. 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗲! 🌟

About Bio2Byte
Proteins are the molecular machines that make cells work. They perform a wide variety of functions through interactions with each other and many additional molecules. Traditionally, proteins are described in a single static state (a picture). It is now increasingly recognised that many proteins can adopt multiple states and move between these conformational states dynamically (a movie).
We investigate how the dynamics, conformational states and available experimental data of proteins relates to their amino acid sequence. Underlying physical and chemical principles are computationally unravelled through data integration, analysis and machine learning, so connecting them to biological events and improving our understanding of the way proteins work.
