About the role
Production Supervisor - Millwork
Position Summary
The Production Supervisor - Millwork is responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations to maximize productivity, ensure on-time order fulfillment, and maintain the highest standards of quality and safety. This role oversees production schedules, supervises shop floor personnel, and drives continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring efficient use of materials and resources.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily production activities to ensure efficient workflows and adherence to production schedules.
Lead, mentor, and motivate production staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with quality standards, safety regulations, and operating procedures.
Conduct inspections of finished products, identify quality issues, and implement corrective actions when required.
Maintain accurate production records, including inventory, quality metrics, and team performance.
Collaborate with quality assurance and other departments to maintain production standards and resolve operational challenges.
Train and onboard new employees in production processes, quality expectations, and workplace safety.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize production downtime.
Evaluate employee performance and provide ongoing coaching to improve productivity and skill development.
Supervise, coordinate, and schedule employees involved in assembling, fabricating, finishing, painting, and inspecting products.
Execute production schedules and adjust workflows to meet delivery timelines.
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
Coordinate material requisitions and receiving to support uninterrupted production.
Prepare production reports and communicate progress to management.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Leadership & Team Management
Support day-to-day production management and departmental operations.
Train employees on job responsibilities, company procedures, and production processes.
Coach and develop team members through regular feedback and performance discussions.
Ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.
Promote efficient use of materials and cost-effective production practices.
Participate in performance management, including performance evaluations and goal setting.
Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and employee selection as required.
Recommend employee promotions and support workforce development initiatives.
Lead and participate in departmental meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions.
Participate in leadership development and continuous learning programs.
Health & Safety
Promote a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient production floor.
Train employees on workplace safety practices and safe equipment operation.
Support incident reporting, workplace investigations, and return-to-work programs when required.
Participate in workplace health and safety initiatives and committee activities.
Work Environment
Manufacturing and production facility.
Qualifications
Education
Post-secondary education is required.
Diploma or certification in Carpentry or a related trade is preferred.
Health and safety training such as WHMIS, Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Training (HSAT), or equivalent is considered an asset.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in architectural millwork or a related manufacturing environment.
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
Previous Leadership Experience With Direct Personnel Management Is Preferred.
Experience operating or supervising CNC machinery is an asset.
Background in construction, carpentry, trim work, finishing, painting, or manufacturing is beneficial.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, production planning, and cost management.
Knowledge of woodworking machinery, tools, equipment maintenance, and production techniques.
Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production specifications.
Familiarity with occupational health and safety legislation and safe work practices.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
