Job Description
As a Maintenance Operative (planned works), you will support the delivery of planned improvement works and maintenance projects across the estate. Working as part of a small, multi-skilled team, the role involves carrying out a wide range of property maintenance, refurbishment, and repair tasks to help maintain safe, functional, and high-quality environments for residents, staff, and visitors.
The role includes completing smaller-scale projects, planned maintenance activities, and minor repair works across occupied and communal areas. Duties will involve a broad range of trade-based tasks including painting and decorating, basic carpentry, plumbing repairs, plastering, flooring installation and repairs, and general building maintenance.
You will be expected to work to agreed schedules and quality standards while ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with health and safety regulations, organisational policies, and industry best practice. The role requires a proactive and flexible approach, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to deliver improvements across the estate.
Essential Criteria
Previous experience of buildings maintenance in a practical capacity. Proficiency in a range of trades including carpentry, plumbing, painting, flooring work. Basic knowledge of health and safety requirements specific to the environment. Basic IT Skills for emails and maintenance job request cards – training is available. Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose minor faults and identify appropriate solutions. Attention to Detail: Ensuring quality workmanship and finishing details. Must demonstrate a reliable, trustworthy and honest approach to work. Able to demonstrate initiative and a pro-active approach to responsibilities. Flexibility to vary hours of work as required. Must be able to undertake the range of activities required within the role including working at heights, use of power tools, lifting and carrying weights, standing for prolonged periods and be able to walk between and across sites. Previous experience of working within a school environment is desirable.
