ABOUT THE JOB
The Opportunity
As the Deputy Director of Health at Pine Grove Correctional Centre, you will play a key leadership role within the Health Services team, reporting to the Director of Health Operations. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of health service delivery within a provincial correctional centre, ensuring that care is safe, efficient, high-quality, and aligned with provincial standards and direction. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams, strengthen operational excellence, and contribute to the effective integration of health services at the facility level within the correctional environment.
Responsibilities
Ensures delivery and evaluation of correctional programs in a multi-level correctional facility. Provides strategic leadership and direct supervision to supervisors, youth workers and program specialists. Liaises with other ministries, civic and federal agencies and community groups to establish coordination of program delivery and application of justice activities. Provides support in the daily management of the centre. Provide facility-level operational leadership for health services within the correctional facility, overseeing clinical and administrative staff to ensure safe, high-quality care. Provide direct leadership and performance oversight to the Nurse Manager, with overall accountability for clinical practice standards, staffing models, and quality of care across the facility. Foster a collaborative, team-based culture grounded in accountability, continuous improvement, and trauma-informed, culturally safe practices. Manage facility-specific health service contracts, ensuring compliance with standards, performance expectations, and fiscal accountability within delegated authority. Collaborate with correctional leadership to integrate and strengthen health services within facility operations and planning in alignment with provincial direction. Oversee the implementation and performance of clinical protocols related to infectious disease, mental health, chronic disease management, and emergency response. Ensure compliance with health legislation, correctional legislation, ministry policies, and professional regulatory standards. Support the execution of provincial strategic health initiatives and quality improvement programs within the correctional centre. Monitor unit budget and resource allocation to sustain effective health operations and identify operational pressures for escalation as required.

Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary health teams in high-pressure, unionized environments, with a focus on operational excellence and staff engagement. Proven ability to foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture that promotes trust, psychological safety, and collaboration. Strong track record of building effective relationships with internal departments, external health partners, and community organizations. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in dynamic and unpredictable environments, exercising sound judgement in complex ethical situations. In-depth understanding of public health principles, health care regulations, and the operational realities of correctional institutions. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences. Experience supporting and implementing operational change initiatives within a complex service environment. Demonstrated success in implementing health initiatives and monitoring their impact using data and performance metrics.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through: Completion of an undergraduate degree in a health care profession with a clinical background. Leadership experience in correctional, public sector and/or health systems. Professional licensure in a regulated health profession is considered an asset.
