About the role
This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 12 months
Are you a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic looking for meaningful work close to home? Join our Fleet and Facility Management department as a Fleet Services Technician, where you'll work alongside a supportive crew to keep our municipal fleet running smoothly and make a real difference in the lives of Strathcona County Residents. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills as a mechanic by working on the wide variety of equipment that Strathcona County operates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize standard knowledge, skills, and best practices of the Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician trade
- Conduct comprehensive maintenance, servicing, and repair of vehicles and equipment used across Strathcona County operations
- Work autonomously, demonstrating the ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation upon completing repairs on vehicles, equipment, and buses. Adhere to assigned time standards, ensuring the timely completion of all tasks and responsibilities
Qualifications and Skills:
- Licensed Journeyperson Heavy Duty On-Road and Off-Road Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician
- Licensed Red Seal would be considered an asset
- Experience working on various types of on-road and off-road equipment including:
- 160M graders
- 950 GC loaders
- Track hoes
- All types of fire apparatus and support vehicles
- Snow and ice sanding trucks
- Tool Cats
- Vac Tucks
- Ice resurfaces
- Strong working knowledge of computer systems, email platforms, and fleet management applications
- Thorough knowledge and experience of equipment repair practices, procedures and preventative maintenance requirements
- Knowledge of current electronic diagnostic programs for chassis and body systems
- Ability to work with a large group and train apprentices with limited supervision
- Knowledge and experience with working in a Fleet Management Program Automotive experience would be considered an asset
Conditions of Employment:
- Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Q endorsement is preferred
- Ability to achieve a Class 3 Driver’s License with a Q endorsement is required
- Ability to achieve Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) status
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work a variety of shifts and overtime may be required Ability to be on-call (1 week per rotation)
