About the role
Lead the team that keeps our community moving! As a Transit Service Delivery Supervisor, you'll oversee a unionized team of Conventional Transit Operators and the day-to-day delivery of safe, reliable, and customer-focused transit services to Strathcona County. As a key member of the transit leadership team, you'll make critical operational and people decisions, drive service excellence, and foster a high-performing team while representing the employer in labour relations matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise unionized employees (approximately 20 direct reports), including hiring, assignment of work, performance management, disciplinary actions, and the handling of grievances and labour relation matters
- Maintain accurate records and reporting on key performance indicators, as well as implement and enforce County Occupational Health and Safety policies
- Monitor and adjust conventional bus service, implement route detours, manage special events and charter services, and oversee bus staging
- Ensure the safety and serviceability of roadways, stops, shelters, and vehicles through proactive maintenance coordination
- Enforcement of Transit Bylaws, including the issuance of infractions
- Seamless coordination of Transit Services within Strathcona County and the Edmonton Region, collaborating with Transit Dispatchers and other departmental staff to resolve service disruptions and provide accurate, timely information to internal and external partners
- Respond to incidents involving Transit or County employees, conduct on-scene incident assessments, as well as conduct thorough investigations of collisions, incidents, and complaints
- Prepare comprehensive responses and reports, adjudicate collisions, conduct disciplinary meetings, and administer formal disciplinary actions as required
- Liaise with Police, Fire, Ambulance, and other emergency service providers, as well as regional transit partners
- Cultivate a positive and productive work environment by fostering open communication, continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development
Qualifications and Skills:

Post-secondary specialized training or certificate in a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience

Experience in a transit or related operational environment, including leadership of staff in a unionized and/or non-unionized environment

Comprehensive knowledge of transit operational policies and procedures

Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations

Strong commitment to delivering a positive customer experience and resolving issues with professionalism and empathy

Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and lead high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, and effective conflict resolution

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Thorough knowledge of the Strathcona County route network and the Edmonton Capital Region street system/traffic regulations

Knowledge of Strathcona County Transit Bylaws and the Alberta Traffic Safety Act as it pertains to public transit vehicles

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)
Conditions of Employment:

Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check

Valid Alberta Class 2 Driver’s licence with airbrake endorsement, and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 5 demerits

Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs

Must be able to pass a pre-hire tablet-based assessment and an on-road evaluation (Vehicle provided by Strathcona County Transit)

Successful passing of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (which includes THC), as this is a safety sensitive position
