About the role
The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria area. To provide this service, the District has an operating budget of approximately $268 million and approximately 3,000 employees.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resource Services, the Manager, Human Resource Services will deliver a range of professional human resource services that support the District’s commitment to ensuring successful student learning. The incumbent will have experience in a variety of employee and labour relations areas, focusing on staffing, recruitment, investigations, grievance handling and job evaluation.
As a key member of the Human Resources team, the successful applicant will possess the ability to provide guidance in best practices to school principals and various administrative staff. The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and to resolve issues in a consultative manner are vital to this position. The successful applicant will have proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills and will demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills that complement the ability to deliver innovative, customer-focused service. This position also requires the ability to work under pressure, individually and as part of a team.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- University degree with a specialization in human resources or labour relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7 years’ experience in HR, including labour relations in a complex unionized environment (preferably within the K-12 or public sector). Prior experience in a managerial role, preferably in an HR environment.
- Proven track record in leading investigations, grievance management and establishing effective relationships with unions and associations.
- Thorough knowledge of provincial and federal legislation governing employers’ Human Resource practices.
This is an exempt position with a salary range of $101,456 to $126,821 and a comprehensive employee benefits package. The starting salary within this range shall be based on experience and qualifications.
