WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Health Information Coder contributes to healthcare delivery as a member of the healthcare team by interacting with medical staff, health providers and management. This position is responsible for performing coding and abstracting duties to provide accurate and timely data on Inpatient, Day Surgery and Emergency cases for reporting to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Ministry of Health and internal hospital departments. Responsibilities also include Release of Information, Q.A., and other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
Certified in Health Information Management (HIM) with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
Recent ICD-10-CA coding work experience in an acute care setting, including Emergency coding
Proven ability to work with minimum supervision utilizing effective organization skills in a changing environment
Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program
Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and Code of Conduct
WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:
Three (3) years coding experience
Recent work experience with 3M HDM and Codefinder
Experience with Cerner or other electronic patient record systems
Qualitative Analysis (QA) experience
Release of information (ROI) experience
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work on all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the Collective Agreement.
