About the role
Company Description
Mitrex is the world's largest manufacturer of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). From our state-of-the-art Toronto facility, we manufacture solar facades, cladding, railings, roof panels, and noise barriers that turn building envelopes into clean energy generators. Our projects range from healthcare and education campuses to high-rise residential and infrastructure. We deliver to general contractors as a supply partner and, on select projects, as a supply-and-install partner.
Position Summary
We are building modular, prefabricated data center capacity and need a System Integration Engineer to own how the pieces come together. You will be the technical bridge between mechanical, electrical, structural, and IT/network disciplines — ensuring that power, cooling, controls, fire protection, security, and white space systems integrate into a manufacturable, deployable, and serviceable modular product. You'll work across the full lifecycle: design integration, factory build and testing, site installation, and commissioning through Level 5 IST. This role suits an engineer who thinks in systems, is comfortable owning ambiguity across disciplines, and wants to help build a repeatable, scalable product rather than one-off custom installations.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture & Design Integration
Own end-to-end system integration for modular data center units (containerized/prefab modules), from concept design through factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT). Develop and maintain integration requirements, interface control documents (ICDs), and system architecture drawings covering electrical distribution (utility/generator/UPS/PDU), cooling (DX, chilled water, liquid cooling, free cooling), BMS/EPMS controls, fire detection/suppression, physical security, and structured cabling. Define system redundancy topology (N, N+1, 2N) and ensure design intent is carried through consistently across mechanical, electrical, and controls interfaces. Coordinate cross-discipline design reviews with mechanical, electrical, controls, and structural engineers, as well as OEM vendors and fabrication partners; resolve interface conflicts and clash issues early.
Testing & Commissioning
Define and execute integrated test plans: factory witness testing, point-to-point verification, functional performance testing, and Level 1–5 commissioning scripts (including integrated systems testing under load banks). Coordinate with third-party commissioning agents (CxA) where applicable and ensure test documentation supports turnover and warranty requirements. Support root-cause investigation and corrective action for integration issues found during FAT/SAT/IST.
Vendor & Process Management
Manage technical vendor relationships: evaluate equipment submittals, review shop drawings, track long-lead items, and validate compliance with specifications. Develop repeatable, product-oriented integration processes: standard work instructions, quality checklists, and design-for-manufacturing/design-for-serviceability (DfMA/DfS) improvements across module generations.
Site Deployment & Compliance
Support site deployment: module set, rigging/crane coordination, inter-module connections (power, piping, fiber), utility tie-ins, and turnover documentation. Coordinate transport and logistics constraints (oversize/overweight permitting, route surveys) with fabrication and site teams. Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC/CEC, ASHRAE TC 9.9, NFPA 70/75/76, UL/CSA listings, Uptime Institute Tier or TIA-942 requirements as applicable), and adhere to electrical safety practices (arc flash, LOTO) during energized testing and commissioning.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent practical experience). 5+ years in data center engineering, mission-critical facilities, or complex electromechanical system integration; 2+ years hands-on with data center power and cooling systems. Working knowledge of critical power topologies (UPS, ATS/STS, generators, switchgear) and cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water plants, or liquid/immersion cooling). Experience with commissioning processes (Levels 1–5) and factory/site acceptance testing. Ability to read and mark up single-line diagrams, P&IDs, control schematics, and construction drawings. Strong cross-functional coordination skills — comfortable running design reviews and holding vendors accountable to interface specs. Willingness to travel (approx. [20–40]%) to fabrication facilities and deployment sites.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience with modular/prefabricated data centers, skid-based power modules, or containerized infrastructure. Experience with high-density or AI/HPC deployments and liquid cooling (direct-to-chip, CDUs, rear-door heat exchangers). Experience with design-for-manufacturing in a factory production environment (ISO 9001 or similar quality systems). Familiarity with utility interconnection, medium-voltage distribution, or microgrid/BESS integration.
