Our client is seeking a Fleet & Maintenance Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of its fleet maintenance department in Truro, Nova Scotia. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Fleet & Maintenance Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance and repair, ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will lead a team of six experienced, highly autonomous mechanics and technicians while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include
Managing preventive maintenance and repair programs for fleet assets. Maintaining accurate maintenance records, logs, and regulatory documentation. Ensuring the maintenance shop, equipment, and facilities are safe, organized, and well maintained. Participating in budgeting, reporting, and operational planning. Monitoring fleet performance, maintenance costs, downtime, and utilization using fleet management software and telematics. Managing inventory of parts, tools, and shop supplies. Collaborating with drivers to address equipment issues and supporting equipment-related driver training. Promoting a safe work environment while ensuring compliance with all applicable transportation and safety regulations.
The ideal candidate will bring five or more years of experience in fleet operations and maintenance, including at least two years in a leadership role. A strong understanding of heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance, commercial trucking regulations, and mechanical and pneumatic systems is essential. Experience using fleet maintenance software, telematics, and electronic logging devices (ELDs) is also required.
Preferred qualifications include
Heavy-duty truck and/or trailer technician certification. Class 1 or Class 5 driver's license. Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills. A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with a commitment to operational excellence.
