Position Highlights
As a Senior Cybersecurity Advisor for the Cybersecurity Planning Team, you will lead the strategic planning and
architecture function for BC Hydro, shaping the long term direction of its cybersecurity program. You will strengthen the
organization’s security posture by developing strategic plans and capability roadmaps that define how current assets will be
sustained, how existing capabilities will mature, and how gaps and vulnerabilities will be addressed. In this role, you will
connect enterprise security architecture, project delivery, and cybersecurity operations, ensuring that all initiatives align with
the overarching security architecture vision. You will work closely with enterprise architects, business units, and vendors to
develop investment justifications, build business cases, and oversee solution delivery. Success in this position requires both
deep technical expertise and broad strategic insight, enabling you to assess and approve technical solution designs and
implementation plans that are secure, operable, and intuitive for cybersecurity teams and end users.
What you'll do
- Strategic Planning: Lead and coordinate strategic planning activities by working with business units and technical teams to
capture, prioritize, and translate requirements into actionable project plans. This includes developing capability plans,
guiding asset lifecycle and sustainment strategies, and supporting performance and capacity planning to ensure
cybersecurity platforms and services remain reliable, scalable, and aligned with long term organizational needs.
- Technical Leadership: Provide architectural leadership by guiding and reviewing solution designs to ensure they are
technically sound, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture principles. Define, establish, and maintain cybersecurity
architecture standards, patterns, and reference models, ensuring they are well documented and consistently applied across
projects. Evaluate new technologies, assess solution alternatives, and validate that designs meet security, performance,
operability, and compliance requirements while ensuring delivered solutions are resilient, scalable, and maintainable.
- Roadmap Development: Develop and maintain capabilities and implementation roadmaps in partnership with Enterprise
Architecture and operational teams ensuring alignment with the enterprise vision, long-term objectives and evolving
business needs.
- Financial Planning: Promote fiscal accountability by validating the business value of investments through cost benefit
analysis, performing project estimations and forecasting, and supporting the operational budgeting process with financial
projections.
- Project Oversight: Provide ongoing oversight throughout the project delivery lifecycle, ensuring solutions are implemented
securely and effectively.
- Design Review: Review and approve technical solution designs and detailed implementation documents, providing expert
feedback and recommendations.
- Risk Management: Support the assessment and prioritization of cybersecurity risks, drive remediation of gaps, and
support operational teams in maintaining a strong security posture.
- Vendor Engagement: Work with vendors to identify, evaluate, and select solutions that meet BC Hydro’s cybersecurity and
operational needs.
- Subject Matter Expert: Serve as a subject matter expert, offering a “cyber lens” on solutions for other business units and
supporting enterprise-wide cybersecurity initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in IT and OT
security.
What you bring
- Technical Architect Mindset: Demonstrated experience as a technical architect or cybersecurity specialist, with the ability
to bridge strategy, design, delivery, and operations.
- Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a combination of equivalent experience
may be considered. CISSP, CISM, or similar certifications preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years designing and implementing technical solutions with cybersecurity components in large
enterprise environments, including at least 4 years in strategic or advisory roles.
- Expertise in Two or More Areas:

o Identity & Access Management (IAM)
o Infrastructure & Data Centre Security
o Endpoint Security
o Network Security
o Security Monitoring & Operations
o Threat & Vulnerability Management
o Data Protection
o OT and ICS Security
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in IAM, cloud, and application areas at this time.

What else you should know
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and oral communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to influence
stakeholders and resolve conflicts.

Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint.

Experience with NERC CIP compliance an asset.
