Reports To: Head of Grounds
Hourly Rate: $28 - $35 per hour
Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview:
The Groundskeeper works with the Grounds team to maintain and enhance all exterior areas of the St. George’s School properties, specifically two campuses with sports fields at each. This is a full-time, year-round position. The starting wage is dependent on skill set and experience, and the successful candidate would be eligible for our full benefits package. We are looking for a candidate whose knowledge and capabilities match those of someone who has thrived in a similar role for approximately one year.

Key Responsibilities:
- Being an effective member of a cohesive team of grounds professionals.
- Adhering to guidelines and policies relating to grounds use and management.
- Maintain and care for gardens, lawns, and landscapes.
- Use hand tools and power tools to perform various tasks such as mowing, trimming, and pruning.
- Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the overall appearance of the grounds.
- Perform line painting on sports fields for sports events.
- Helps support the maintenance of machinery and equipment.
- Installation of hardscapes; retaining walls, pavers, walkways.
- Execute a variety of outdoor projects ranging from installation and care of lawns, garden and mulch areas, constructing patios, and landscape maintenance.
- Adheres to WorkSafe BC standards.
- Rotating on-call weekend snow removal throughout the winter.
- Performing seasonal work such as raking leaves, pruning, clearing snow, salting and sanding and general Grounds duties.
- Any other activities as directed by the Head of Grounds.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical aptitude.
- High level of physical energy.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Strong organizational and records keeping abilities.
- Equipment operating experience; bobcat, ride on mowers, tractors.
- Experience with hand tools and machines related to landscaping.
- Demonstrated professionalism.
- Commitment to an independent school work environment.
- Current Class 5 or higher BC Driver’s License.
- Key competencies and EQ in the following areas: self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social expertness, initiative, and accountability.
