VAUXHALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Vauxhall Elementary School is an Early Learning to grade six elementary school of approximately 140 students with a staff of 23. We are located approximately 20 minutes North of Taber or 50 minutes northeast of Lethbridge.
Regular Learning Commons Support – approx. 9 hours/week
Hours of work- Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday 11:30 a.m.-3:13 p.m.
The Learning Commons Supports assists students and staff within a modern Learning Commons model that promotes collaboration, creativity, literacy, inquiry, and flexible learning opportunities. This role is designed to help create an engaging, welcoming, and student-centered environment where learners can access support, resources, and meaningful learning experiences.
The position combines responsibilities within the Learning Commons with the potential time of some scheduled classroom assistant support throughout the school day. This flexible structure allows the successful candidate to support both whole-school learning initiatives and targeted student needs within classrooms.
The Learning Commons Assistant will:
- Help maintain an organized, inviting, and accessible Learning Commons space.
- Support students in locating and utilizing books, technology, and learning resources.
- Encourage literacy development through reading support, book promotion, and student engagement activities.
- Assist with collaborative projects, inquiry-based learning opportunities, and creative learning experiences.
- Support teachers and students during Learning Commons visits and flexible learning blocks.
- Help manage book circulation, shelving, displays, and resource organization.
- Promote positive student interactions and an inclusive learning environment.
- Assist with technology integration and basic troubleshooting when required.
- Support school-wide initiatives connected to literacy, wellness, and student engagement.

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division:
- Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
- Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
- As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
- Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
- Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
