Role Purpose

The Director, Operations Transformation & AI Enablement is responsible for driving operational efficiency, executing AI‑enabled improvements, and translating strategy into measurable outcomes across Operations. This role focuses on hands‑on delivery of process improvement, automation, and operating model initiatives, partnering closely with business, technology, finance, and risk teams.

The Director plays a critical role in modernising how work gets done , improving capacity and productivity, and ensuring transformation initiatives deliver tangible, sustainable value.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement

• Lead transformation initiatives to simplify, standardise, and streamline operational processes , reducing manual effort and cycle time.

• Identify inefficiencies and friction across end‑to‑end workflows and design practical, scalable solutions.

• Establish and track clear performance metrics (e.g. productivity, capacity, quality, cost‑to‑serve) and support benefits realisation.

AI, Automation & Digital Enablement

• Drive delivery of AI and automation use cases within Operations, including workflow automation, GenAI tools, and decision‑support capabilities.

• Partner with Technology, Data, and Risk teams to ensure solutions are well‑governed, compliant, and scalable .

• Support adoption of AI productivity tools and new ways of working, ensuring change is embedded into day‑to‑day operations.

• Translate strategic AI ambition into practical pilots, scaled deployments, and measurable results .

Strategy Execution & Operating Model Support

• Support senior leadership in converting enterprise and business strategy into clear operational plans and transformation roadmaps .

• Contribute to the design and implementation of future‑state operating models , balancing efficiency, scalability, and control.

• Lead or support cross‑functional initiatives spanning Operations, Technology, Finance, and the business.

Designs, develops, tests, implements, measures and manages processes. Ensures that process design reflects current business strategy and business/stakeholder requirements and supports the desired customer experience. Processes may be related to (but are not limited to) fulfillment, operations, services, sales, etc.

• Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.

• Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges.

• Networks with industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices.

• Recommends measures to improve organizational effectiveness.

• May consult to or serve on various committees and task forces.

• Counsels senior leaders regarding process transformation.

• Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.

• Stays abreast of industry and business trends through benchmarking and/or participation in professional associations.

• Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.

• Assists in the development of strategic plans.

• Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.

• Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

• Contributes to the design and leads the execution of the overall strategic plan for Process Transformation.

• Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.

• Develops the business case by identifying needs, analysing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.

• Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.

• Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.

• Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.

• Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.

• Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

• Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.

• Leads the development of the communication strategy focusing on positively influencing or changing behaviour.

• Ensures consistency of implementations and methodologies across businesses/groups.

• Assesses and adapts existing operational programs; develops new capabilities to ensure ongoing success.

• Defines frameworks for managing processes, policies or procedures, etc. in the business/group.

• Leads the execution of operational programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.

• Develops and manages comprehensive information management systems; designs and/or leads initiatives to improve processes, analysis and reporting.

• Reviews proposed function/project team outputs for implications to workflow design.

• Collaborates in the design, implementation and management of core business/group processes.

• Designs processes based on business requirements and best practices. Ensures the processes adhere to applicable risk, regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Streamlines, simplifies and continuously improves existing processes.

• Documents processes (including, but not limited to, process flows, playbooks, etc.) for vetting, communicating, and implementing processes with stakeholders.

• Ensures all processes meet established standards, effectively utilize templates and tools to track compliance and operational effectiveness standards.

• Looks for opportunities to eliminate, simplify and automate processes. Recommends approaches or changes to streamline and integrate processes to improve overall efficiency.

• Maintains current process documentation to ensure available for stakeholders as required.

• Supports management of processes using established methodologies and tools/system/technology.

• Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.

• Participates in the integration of Core Process transformation across business/groups to deliver process improvements for productivity savings and enhanced customer/employee experience.

• Develops an understanding of organizational interactions and complexity to engage with the appropriate stakeholders.

• Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.

• Resolves issues regarding processes that are raised from all sources/stakeholders.

• Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.

• Influences how teams/groups work together.

• Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.

• Communicates abstract concepts in simple terms.

• Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives.

  Qualifications:

• Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and/or certification in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Possesses a deep understanding of and problem solving ability for issues within the business/group.

• Knowledge of business analysis, project delivery practices and standards across the project lifecycle - Expert.

• Knowledge of business/group processes, procedures and controls - Expert.

• Understanding of risk, regulatory and compliance requirements - Expert.

• Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.

• Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation.

Salary :

$110,500.00 - $192,500.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
