JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the WTP Superintendent, the Uncertified Filtration Plant Operator is responsible for the day-to-day
operation and control of the City’s water treatment facility. Key accountabilities are to perform work functions that
ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, OH&S and government regulations. The Uncertified
Filtration Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and treatment
processes, and for the safe, reliable production and supply of high-quality drinking water for all residential,
commercial and industrial customers.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
- Maintain water treatment plant systems including oxidation, clarification, coagulation, flocculation, filtration
and disinfection to ensure an adequate and safe supply of water;
- Perform cleaning, inspections and general maintenance duties of the water treatment plant and other building
components and systems as required;

Transport and mix chemicals and operate equipment for loading/unloading chemicals;

Perform daily data collection;

Complete daily logs and records, track any irregularities in operations and maintenance, and input information
into required reports for government agencies, departments and other organizations as required;

Perform weekly, monthly and yearly tasks including calibration of online and lab instrumentations;

Perform weekly and monthly data analysis;

Maintain chemical inventory;

Perform basic UV operation;

Perform other duties as assigned by the senior operator /OAR operator or Superintendent of water plant.
Safety
- Ensures procedures and established performance safety standards are met.

EDUCATION

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Class 5 Driver’s Licence

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Two-year technical program/diploma related to Water Treatment/Environmental Science. An equivalent
combination of related formal education and experience in a water treatment environment may be
considered as an asset.
- The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Class I Water Treatment Operator
Certification from the Saskatchewan Water & Wastewater Certification Board within one (1) year of their
commencement date.

SCADA System Training
ASSET:

Moderate command of Microsoft EXCEL and WORD

Knowledge of SCADA system preferred.

Certification in confined space and fall protection required and SCBA.
EXPERIENCE
- No previous experience required. Considered an asset any experience as an operator in the water treatment
process.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working conditions of this position involve sampling / collecting data, regular maintenance work such as
dosing pumps, hoses, chemical tanks, water tanks and climbing ladders.
- Sometimes heavy lifting, pushing and pulling material, and exposure to chemicals. The position requires
appropriate training and use of personal safety devices.
- This position may be required to work evenings and weekends and be on-call as required.
