Job Purpose
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, Facilities, the Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for the meticulous cleaning of all assigned areas, using industrial or commercial cleaning supplies, equipment, and methods.
Please note: one position is located at Buffalo Place, one position is located at Central Services.
Job Responsibilities
DAILY CLEANING
- Clean and maintain cleanliness of assigned areas according to departmental policy and procedures.
- Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors, staircases, and elevators. Floor cleaning will require moving furniture as well as the use of specialized cleaning equipment (i.e. motorized floor washers, and buffers).
- Clean all washrooms, wipe light fixtures, toilet, sinks, mirrors, partitions, vents, urinals, stall doors, sweep and mop floor. Empty garbage receptacles and sanitary dispensers; replace bags; replenish all product as needed.
- Dust and clean cubicles, offices, hallways, meeting rooms, reception, and lobby areas.
- Wipe down all table and chairs and dust television screens, clean microwaves in staff lounge and meeting rooms. Sweep, vacuum and mop floors.
- Pick up, empty, and replace garbage receptacles.
- Replenish all housekeeping stock items as required.
- Wipe and clean tables.
- Maintain cleanliness of janitor room; wash and put away rags, towels, mops.
- Polish all stainless-steel surfaces.
- Clean open floor area in the primary Central Services warehouse using the floor scrubber on a scheduled basis.
WEEKLY/MONTHLY/ANNUAL CLEANING
Weekly
- Mop and wash all hard surface floors
- Wash staff lounge fridge(s).
- Sweep and wash work non office areas.
Monthly
- Machine scrub floors as needed.
- Wash walls, windows, window ledges and HVAC vents.
- High dusting, which may involve the use of motorized lifts, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Low dusting, baseboards, heating vents, furniture legs, etc.
Annually
- Strip and wax floors requiring waxing.
- Shampoo all carpets.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Primary Qualifications
- Grade 10 or an acceptable level of education (with the ability to communicate (read, write, and speak English).
- A WHMIS certificate is required. This certification may be obtained during onboarding and must be maintained.
- Operation of Boom and Scissor lifts may be required; training will be acquired on the job
- Access to reliable transportation to travel from one location to another

Secondary Qualifications
- Prior experience in cleaning, customer service, operating various cleaning equipment and experience in the use and proper handling of a variety of cleaning supplies is an asset.
- Having and maintaining a valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License is an asset.

Vacation
- Accrue up to 10 paid vacation days per year during the first 2 years of employment.
