Term (One-Year) Instructor: Mathematics Education K-8
The Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a full-time term (one-year) open hire for an Instructor position in Mathematics Education**.**
The University of Winnipeg is located on Treaty One Territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis, in Wiiniibak, Manido Abi. We acknowledge these are the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew, Ininiwak/Nehethowuk, Oceti Sakowin/Dakota Oyate, and Michif (Métis) Peoples. This territory is also a place of significance for the Denesuline and the Inuit, some of whom have been living here for generations. The Faculty of Education offers a five-year integrated Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, a two-year after-degree BEd program, Access teacher education programs, a Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education (PBDE) for in-service teachers, and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy.
The successful candidate will teach eight 3-credit hour courses focusing on Mathematics Education K-8 across our Bachelor of Education programs.
The successful candidate will also possess, at minimum, a master’s degree in education (or a related field). Candidates must possess (or be eligible to hold) a valid teaching certificate and have familiarity with the Manitoba mathematics curriculum K- 8. Experience in one or more of the following areas is required: K–12 classroom settings (regular or alternative), mentoring pre-service and/or in-service teachers, working with adult learners in educational or post-secondary environments, and supporting students with diverse learning needs. Curricular teaching area of expertise is mathematics, K–8. In addition to evidence of exemplary teaching and effectiveness, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate collegiality and contribute meaningfully to program development, faculty initiatives, university governance, reconciliation efforts, and community engagement.
A strong foundation in mathematics pedagogy is essential, including knowledge of direct and indirect instructional methods, problem-based learning, inquiry-based learning, assessment practices, physical and visual models, and current research on pedagogical innovation in mathematics education. The ideal candidate will have experience in some of the following areas: backward design for learning; decolonial perspectives; global competencies; curriculum theory and curricular reform; familiarity working with diverse learners including students with math-specific disabilities; mathematics identity work; and culturally responsive, proactive, and preventative approaches to supporting students and their families.
Subject to budgetary approval, the appointment will take effect on July 1, 2026, or as soon as possible afterwards. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
