Job Summary
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (https://www.drake.edu/hs/) at Drake
University invites applications for an adjunct instructor for two undergraduate physiology courses beginning August 24th of 2026. We seek candidates who will be knowledgeable and committed to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences for undergraduate students enrolled in the physiology lecture courses in the fall and the spring, as well as overseeing the physiology laboratory sections in the spring. Responsibilities include leading lectures and discussions, preparing teaching and learning materials, creating new or revising available assignments and exams, utilizing Drake’s learning management system (LMS), and otherwise assessing student learning.
Specific courses linked to this position include
- PHAR 125 (4 credits) – Physiology o This is a lecture course with a discussion section delivered to first year pharmacy students. o Fall 2026 Class Schedule: M/W/F 12:30-1:45pm CST
- HSCI 125 (3 credits) – Medical Physiology o This is a lecture course with a laboratory section delivered to health sciences undergraduate students. o Spring 2026 Class Schedule: M/W 2:00-3:15pm CST

The successful candidate will have organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, adhere to course and program policies, stay on track with the syllabus schedule, maintain documentation records, and follow through on assignments to completion. They will also have the initiative and ability to work independently while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master’s degree preferred in physiology, or a related field is
minimally required. PhD in physiology or a related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Previous teaching experience in lecture and/or laboratory courses is
preferred. OTHER ESSENTIAL TRAINING AND SKILLS: A commitment to academic excellence; advanced knowledge of health care or health sciences broadly; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
Job Duties
- 60% - Prepare for and deliver the lecture and discussion components of the assigned courses. - (Essential)
- 20% - Oversee the planning and delivery of assigned labs for health sciences students (i.e., facilitate labs and/or courses, prep for labs/courses, assist instructor with other duties as assigned). Note: Laboratory sections are taught and managed by a separate laboratory instructor. - (Essential)
- 20% - Assist with grading, reinforcement of lab materials, safety measures and precautions for all spaces and equipment utilized by the program. - (Essential)
