About Kanin Energy Kanin Energy is a leading waste heat-to-power (WHP) and behind-the-meter clean power developer, partnering with industrial companies across North America to deliver innovative low-carbon energy solutions. We develop, finance, own, and operate power generation assets that reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, strengthen grid resilience, and create long-term value for our industrial partners. Our portfolio spans waste heat-to-power, combined heat and power (CHP), distributed generation, and emerging industrial decarbonization technologies. As we continue to grow, we are seeking talented professionals who are passionate about delivering complex energy infrastructure projects and advancing the transition to cleaner industrial energy systems. The Opportunity Kanin Energy is seeking a sharp, motivated Analyst or Associate with a background in power generation related project finance, energy M&A/investment banking, or electricity market analysis to join our Calgary-based team. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Development, this is a high-impact role for someone who wants to move from pure transaction execution into a position that combines financial rigor with direct customer engagement and deal origination. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership on live transactions, corporate financial modeling, and strategic analysis that directly shapes how Kanin structures and finances its projects. Key Responsibilities Customer Engagement & Deal Origination Support engagement with prospective industrial and commercial customers, helping to articulate project value propositions and economic benefits. Prepare client-facing materials, including proposals, term sheets, and presentations that support the sales and origination process. Participate in customer engagements alongside originators and business development team members, building foundational relationship-management skills. Deal Structuring & Transaction Support Assist in structuring project finance and M&A transactions, including evaluation of financing alternatives such as debt, tax equity, back-leverage, and structured equity. Support due diligence processes, coordinate data rooms, and liaise with legal, technical, and tax advisors on live deals. Assess project revenue mechanics across deregulated power markets (e.g., AESO, ERCOT, PJM, or MISO), incorporating wholesale nodal/zonal pricing, basis risk, capacity mechanisms, and renewable/clean energy attribute monetization (e.g., offsets, RECs). Draft investment memoranda, board materials, and internal approval packages for new projects and transactions. Financial & Corporate Modeling Build and maintain detailed project finance models, including unlevered and levered returns, debt sizing and sculpting, tax attribute modeling, and sensitivity and scenario analysis. Experience modelling power generation projects using monthly generation profiles, wholesale power curves, heat rate/spark spread dynamics, merchant exposure vs. contracted cash flows is an asset. Develop and maintain corporate-level consolidation models, including cash flow forecasting, covenant compliance tracking, and portfolio-level analytics. Support valuation analysis for M&A opportunities, including comparable company, precedent transaction, and discounted cash flow analysis. Analytics & Reporting Prepare recurring and ad hoc analytics for management, investors, and lenders, including KPI tracking and portfolio performance dashboards. Monitor market trends, including energy pricing, tax credit policy, and capital markets conditions, relevant to project economics and financing strategy. Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial modeling templates, tools, and internal processes. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, accounting, or a related field. 2–3 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, project finance, M&A advisory, or a related transaction-focused role. Recently promoted Analyst or newly appointed Associate from a bank, boutique advisory firm, or infrastructure or energy investment group strongly preferred. Advanced financial modeling skills, including project finance concepts such as debt sizing, cash sweeps, waterfalls, and valuation methodologies. Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with experience working with large data sets and building structured, auditable models. Demonstrated familiarity with power project revenue drivers, including energy and capacity markets and PPA contract structures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with customers, lenders, and senior stakeholders. Legally eligible to work in Canada and based in, or willing to relocate to, Calgary, Alberta. Preferred Experience Exposure to power, renewables, or broader energy and infrastructure transactions. Working knowledge of North American organized power markets (e.g., AESO, ERCOT, PJM, CAISO) and market design rules. Familiarity with structured project financing, including tax equity and investment tax credits. Prior direct client- or investor-facing experience. What Will Make You Successful The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who takes ownership of outcomes and thrives in a fast-paced project environment. You are comfortable balancing technical, commercial, and stakeholder considerations while maintaining a strong focus on execution. You bring: Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. A proactive and solution-oriented mindset. Intellectual curiosity and a desire to continuously expand your technical and commercial knowledge. The ability to quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and project requirements. A bias toward action and a willingness to drive progress in the face of ambiguity. A willingness to step outside your comfort zone, take on unfamiliar challenges, and contribute wherever needed to advance project success. Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. A commitment to delivering projects safely, efficiently, and professionally. What Kanin Energy Offers Direct exposure to senior leadership and a seat at the table on live, market-relevant transactions. A fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with significant room for growth as the company scales. Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and benefits package. The opportunity to help build the financial and analytical backbone of a growing clean energy platform. How to Apply If you are excited about helping structure and finance innovative clean energy projects across North America, we would like to hear from you.
