Job details
About Ounits Ounits is revolutionizing real estate ownership by making property investment accessible through fractional ownership and co-ownership models. Our mission is to unlock homeownership opportunities for people who are priced out of traditional markets, while creating flexible investment vehicles without the full burdens of property ownership. You'll be joining at a formative stage to help shape the technical vision, scale our live product, and build the foundation for a platform that could fundamentally change how people access real estate. The Role This is a high-impact engineering role where you'll work directly with the Founder to scale the Ounits platform. You are not joining a team; you are building one. This role is highly autonomous and execution-focused. You'll take ownership of the codebase across our stack (React, NestJS/TypeScript, PostgreSQL), collaborate on product strategy, and make the core architectural decisions that will power our deal pipelines, group governance, and complex ledger systems. You'll be expected to think like a founder: asking "why are we building this?" before "how do I build this?", balancing speed with scalable architecture. What You’ll Do Technical Leadership: Take full ownership of the existing codebase and technical architecture, making strategic decisions on infrastructure (AWS/GCP) and tooling. Data Architecture: Design and implement complex relational data models, including multi-entity ownership, financial records, and append-only ledgers. Core Product Builds: Develop investor profiles with KYC/AML compliance, group management systems (governance, voting, RBAC), and manage the full deal pipeline. Workflow Automation: Implement offer tracking with email ingestion, document management, and layered ownership logic. Integrations: Connect third-party APIs seamlessly, including PandaDoc, Google Autocomplete, Gmail API, and Persona. What We’re Looking For 4+ years building production web applications across frontend and backend. Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript/NestJS. Deep experience with PostgreSQL and designing complex relational databases. Proven track record of taking products from 0 to 1, or scaling an early-stage MVP. Strong product sense—you understand the business goals behind the technical requirements. Comfort with ambiguity, fast iteration, and making decisions without a playbook. Bonus Points (Nice to Have) Experience in fintech, proptech, or legaltech. Familiarity with Canadian real estate processes (OREA forms, LP/Corp structures) or cap table logic. Experience with native mobile app development or document workflow APIs (like PandaDoc). What We Offer Equity-First Compensation: We strongly prefer an equity-heavy compensation structure for someone who wants massive long-term upside. We’ll ensure base cash comfortably covers living expenses, but our ideal candidate wants to build real wealth through equity. Direct Influence: Shape our architecture, product roadmap, and engineering culture from day one. Founder Partnership: Work directly with the founders on strategy and vision, not just ticket execution. Flexibility & Autonomy: Remote-first culture (Canada) with flexibility on schedule. We care about high-quality output, not hours in a seat.
