We work with youth and vulnerable adults in the areas of education, employment, housing, substance use and mental health, and youth and family support services. About the Program Teen Recreation and Education Enhancement (TREES) is an alternate secondary school in Surrey for youth ages 13–18, operating in partnership with School District 36. The program delivers a full academic curriculum within a small, structured learning environment that emphasizes individualized instruction and flexible, student‑centred learning. TREES supports students to engage in their education, develop positive learning habits, and build academic skills through programming delivered on‑site and in the community, providing an alternative pathway for youth who benefit from a non‑traditional school setting. Hours & Conditions of Work * Term Full Time * 35 hours weekly * Anticipated Term: November 2026 to November 2027 * Work Hours – Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends. Position Summary Wage Grid 13 The School Youth Worker is a member of the team responsible for the emotional and school needs of students in the program. The core role is to provide basic care and nurturing, set reasonable expectations and limits, to participate in planning the achievement of identified goals for individual youth and to assist the teacher with curriculum planning and development. This requires a sound understanding of both normal and delayed or problematic development behaviours and barriers, impulsivity, attachment issues, the effects of trauma, and learning disabilities such as FASD and ADHD. Specific skills such as program development, sports, arts and crafts, and recreation planning are an asset in engaging youth in meaningful activities. The School Youth Worker will possess a strong ability to provide assessment, behavior management, and assist the teacher in the classroom with curriculum development and student tutoring. Team work, collaboration and creativity are key assets to worker in this dynamic program. Responsibilities * Provides culturally safe and diverse, in-class support services to students * Establishes relationships with youth to ensure they are supported to make connections to longer term community resources, specifically those that address their needs relating to education and life skills * Engages with and encourages youth to participate in pro-social activities by supporting daily school-based outings in the community * Administers paperwork, daily case notes and statistical record keeping and reporting * Supports teaching staff to develop creative curriculum opportunities that mirror real life learning * Provides one to one outreach to students experiencing barriers to class attendance; some community outreach or home visits may be required * Creates and maintains stakeholder relationships in the communities that we serve, by forging mutually beneficial connections and building networks to better serve our participants; Partnerships may include the MCFD Social Work and Probation teams, Surrey School District, RCMP and many other youth serving community agencies connected to the students * Prepares monthly reports for funders and attend integrated case management meetings, ensuring that all information is current and relevant, as well as identify emergent trends that need to be addressed * Participates in team meetings and team building by communicating accurately and objectively about any ideas, thoughts or issues regarding the program and the work that is being done * Shares ideas and understanding with fellow team mates, work collaboratively with all team members Competencies & Knowledge * Experience supporting students with complex behavioural, social, and emotional needs * Strong relationship-building and communication skills * Knowledge of trauma-informed and positive behaviour support strategies * Ability to remain calm and effective during challenging or escalated situations * Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support professionals * Strong understanding of confidentiality, boundaries, and professional conduct * Flexibility and ability to adapt support to individual student needs What We Offer * Equitable & Transparent Base Pay – we are a Certified Living Wage Employer [https://www.livingwageforfamilies.ca/living_wage_employers] * Generous paid vacation, personal and sick time; additional paid time off for life events * Additional paid holidays (ex.
