The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has an exciting Forestry Analyst term opportunity in the Forest Service Branch located in Prince Albert. Reporting to the Manager of Silviculture, Scaling and Forest Health, this position supports the sustainable development of Saskatchewan’s forest sector throughout the province.

As the Forestry Analyst, you will:

• provide forest data analysis expertise to the Forest Service, and government ministries, and support senior ministry staff decision-making on forest sustainability issues;
• design, develop, implement, and maintain datasets for computer models and decision support applications for environmental programs; and
• foster a productive, effective, healthy, and respectful work environment.

The successful candidate will have:

• knowledge of information management protocols related to silviculture effectiveness monitoring;
• the ability to manipulate and analyze large forestry datasets for growth model input and the ability to analyze and report on the growth model outputs;
• knowledge of the principles of geographic information systems;
• knowledge of statistical analysis tools;
• knowledge of statistical analysis techniques;
• the ability to identify solutions to complex problems and recommend strategies or make decisions to address issues and concerns within a context of available resources, stringent timelines, divergent perspectives and/or opposing viewpoints;
• the ability to manage multiple projects by prioritizing work, multi-tasking, and adapting to changing priorities;
• the ability to verbally and in writing relay technical, policy and/or forestry-related information through presentations, reports and memos to promote understanding and educate a wide and varied audience; and
• the ability to promote a healthy, productive, respectful and safe work environment that is free of discrimination.

The competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a Master of Science in Forestry degree (or related sciences) combined with experience with data management, analysis and modeling applications in a natural resource context.
