THE OPPORTUNITY: TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYMENT AND OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN – INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT A
Special Education Technology BC is a Provincial Outreach Program funded by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (ECC) and hosted by the Vancouver School Board. SET-BC was established in 1989 by the Special Education Branch of the BC Ministry of Education to provide assistive technology services for students living with physical disabilities. In this position, you will:
- Perform information technology functions to support the work at SET-BC, a provincial outreach program hosted by the VSB
- Provide IT support either working remotely or onsite in District and school locations; to internal education staff and provincial school teams
- Receive phone calls, emails, walk-ups and online submissions and record, categorize, prioritize, and assign requests for technical services
- Provide first/second level technical support, troubleshooting and training services to staff/students and team members via phone, remote control or on site
- Determine nature of request through active listening, asking probing questions, using multiple computer applications to determine clients’ needs to ensure accurate information is collected, perform troubleshooting steps and work towards first level resolution
- Install and configure computer and mobile technologies, system and application software, servers, network equipment, printers, scanners, and other technologies in schools and District locations across the province
- Create and deploy Assistive Technology software system and application packages
- Provide feedback on applications and system features, advise on use and implement and support as directed
- Identify problems, monitor, administer and problem solve various system, network, and operational issues
- Prepare and maintain records and statistics
- Liaise with Assistive Technology vendors and suppliers
- Perform other work within the job band as assigned
Qualifications:
- Completion of grade 12 plus one (1) year of full-time equivalent post-secondary training in a relevant technology discipline
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in information technology
- Experience of working in a K-12 education organization an asset
- Skill in implementing, problem solving, and supporting Apple and Microsoft computer, mobile, directory, server, printing technologies
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Skill in supportively answering and responding to phone calls and emails
- Skill in implementing, problem solving, supporting network technologies, and repairing computer technologies
- Experience with assistive technology, refreshable braille devices and technology knowledge of student mounting systems (ReHadapt, Daessy, IDEAS) an asset
- Candidate must demonstrate three core competencies (Collaboration, Communication for Results, Problem Solving) and two role specific competencies, (Initiative, Information System Knowledge) at the basic level
- Must be able to meet the following assessment: Hands-on 1-hour series of tasks/problems (70%+)

COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is $62,972.00 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, & Gratuity Days.
