About the role
Job Summary
The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies invites applications for on-call relief Program Technicians to join our School of Trades. Under the general direction of the Director, School of Trades, the Program Technicians are responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the various trade program areas and faculty:
- Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing
- Automotive Service
- Carpentry
- Construction Electrician
- Heavy Mechanical
- Plumbing and Piping
- Welding
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for instructing students on the proper use of tools and equipment along with supervising students and the shop areas in the absence of an instructor.
Provides support to a diverse student group.
Organizes and performs routine repairs and maintenance as scheduled and as required ensuring all warranty repairs/issues are documented and resolved.
Responsible for distribution and return of tools to students, ensuring all Trades department tools are inventoried and maintained in good working order.
Responsible for ensuring Trades Department MSDS sheets are kept current and accessible for enforcing WHMIS and other WorkSafe BC regulations in all Trades areas.
Responds to various inquiries by faculty, staff and students regarding program operations, tool room and tool repairs, project material preparation, and any other Trades related items.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Fully certified in their trade or profession
- Extensive, relevant and broad-based work experience
- Must have extensive experience and excellent knowledge of tools, equipment and supplies used in current trades
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary
