We are currently hiring a Open Liberty / WebSphere Liberty Lead Application Modernization Architect for our global consulting client. Role: Open Liberty / WebSphere Liberty Lead Application Modernization Architect Rate Range: $71 -73/hr C2C (40 hrs /week) Duration: 12 months Location: Hybrid, 2-3 days in office, downtown Toronto, ON, Canada Role Overview Job Description: Lead Application Modernization Architect responsible for designing and modernizing enterprise applications using Open Liberty and WebSphere Liberty, driving migration initiatives from traditional WebSphere Application Server (WAS) environments to cloud-native architectures. Key Responsibilities Design and architect enterprise applications using Open Liberty and WebSphere Liberty. Lead application modernization and migration programs from traditional WebSphere Application Server (WAS) to Open Liberty. Develop cloud-native microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Jakarta EE, and Open Liberty. Define application architecture, deployment strategies, and integration patterns. Implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices. Design scalable, secure, and highly available solutions across cloud environments. Collaborate with business, development, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver enterprise solutions. Conduct architecture reviews and provide technical leadership to development teams. Troubleshoot application performance bottlenecks and optimize runtime environments. Develop architecture documentation, technical standards, governance frameworks, and best practices. Guide modernization initiatives and cloud transformation strategies. Core Qualifications Strong experience as an Application Architect, Solution Architect, or Modernization Architect. Deep expertise with: Open Liberty WebSphere Liberty IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) Proven experience leading large-scale application modernization and migration initiatives. Strong hands-on experience with: Java Advanced Java Concepts Spring Boot Jakarta EE RESTful Web Services Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures. Strong knowledge of cloud-native application development principles. Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Expertise in application integration patterns and API-driven architectures. Strong understanding of security, scalability, and high availability design principles. Experience providing technical leadership and architecture governance. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms. Experience supporting cloud migration and modernization programs. Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and governance models. Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation practices. Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, and application resiliency strategies.
