Construction Estimator

Construction Estimator - Residential Homebuilding Active Homes is a high-volume home builder based in Edmonton, building both production and custom homes throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area. We're looking for an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team and take ownership of the numbers behind every home we build, from initial estimating and tendering through construction and final cost. About the Role This is a key position within our organization. You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining accurate estimates, managing trade and supplier pricing, coordinating tenders and contracts, and monitoring actual costs against budgets. You'll work closely with our construction, drafting, sales, and administration teams to ensure our homes are accurately priced, properly specified, and built efficiently without compromising quality. This is an in-person position based in Edmonton. What You'll Do Prepare and maintain detailed cost estimates for production and custom homes Perform plan takeoffs and coordinate trade tenders Obtain, compare, and negotiate pricing from trades and suppliers Establish and maintain trade scopes of work and specifications Manage trade contracts and purchase orders Create Purchase Orders, review invoices and ensure costs are properly tracked Track actual costs against estimates and identify variances Maintain and update sales pricing Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies without compromising quality Maintain our model, option, specification, and item databases Create and maintain accurate estimating information and pricing within Buildertrend Work with the construction team to resolve pricing and costing issues Continuously improve our estimating and costing processes Other duties as required What We're Looking For Previous estimating experience in residential construction Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, labour, and trade pricing High level of proficiency in Excel Experience with Buildertrend preferred or similar Homebuilding ERP systems. Strong plan-reading and quantity takeoff skills Excellent negotiation and communication skills Extreme attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to identify problems, understand their financial impact, and find practical solutions Comfortable working independently while collaborating with both office and field teams A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the accuracy of your work Why Join Active Homes?
