Role Description The Research and Development Engineering Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Surrey, BC, with some flexibility for work from home. This role oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of R&D initiatives for rugged industrial computing and explosion-proof systems, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps and industry certifications. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading engineering teams, prioritizing and managing projects, coordinating cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and product management, and driving innovation in hardware and embedded solutions. The manager will review technical designs, guide research activities, monitor performance metrics, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations. The role also involves mentoring team members, optimizing development processes, supporting customer-focused solutions, and contributing to strategic technology decisions. Qualifications Strong Research and Development (R&D) skills with experience in product innovation and technology evaluation. Proven Engineering Management capabilities, including resource planning, process improvement, and technical oversight. Solid Research skills for exploring new materials, technologies, and design approaches in rugged and embedded systems. Demonstrated Team Leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and building collaborative engineering teams. Effective Project Management skills to plan, execute, and deliver projects on time and within budget. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Computer, Mechanical) or a related technical field. Deep experience with embedded systems, industrial computing, or hazardous location (HazLoc) products is an asset. Knowledge of relevant certifications and standards (e.g., Class 1 Zone 1, Zone 2, IECEx, CSA/UL, ATEX, CE, FCC) is preferred. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
