Job summary
Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Project Estimator-Lead in the Oil and Gas industry in Calgary, Alberta. The Project Estimating Lead plays a key role in delivering accurate and strategic capital cost estimates for projects from initial concept through execution. This position provides estimating leadership across a diverse project portfolio, ensuring cost estimates are thoroughly validated, benchmarked, risk-assessed, and aligned with industry best practices. Responsibilities: Lead the development and governance of Class VI–III capital cost estimates, ensuring consistent methodologies, estimate quality, resource oversight, and standardized estimating practices across the project portfolio. Develop and maintain detailed project cost estimates by analyzing scope and engineering deliverables, performing quantity take-offs, validating contractor inputs, documenting estimate bases, and clearly defining all assumptions, exclusions, risks, and cost components. Develop and maintain cost benchmarks and estimating intelligence by analyzing historical project data, market conditions, pricing trends, and key cost drivers to improve estimate accuracy and identify optimization opportunities. Lead estimate risk and opportunity assessments by evaluating uncertainties, market conditions, and execution risks, while supporting contingency development, value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost optimization initiatives. Coordinate tendering and procurement activities by managing bid packages, evaluating contractor and vendor proposals, reviewing quotations for competitiveness, and supporting commercial assessments and sourcing strategies. Support project development and capital planning activities by preparing business cases and approval submissions, updating estimates as scope evolves, contributing to stage-gate reviews, and presenting cost recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership. Drive continuous improvement of estimating practices by enhancing standards, procedures, tools, and templates, conducting estimate quality reviews, implementing industry best practices, and strengthening organizational estimating capabilities. Successful candidates will have: Bachelor's degree in: Engineering /Construction Management / Quantity Surveying/ Project Management /Business or related discipline Professional Certifications (Preferred) -AACE Certified Cost Professional (CCP) / AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) / PMP Certification Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation considered an asset. 10+ years of project estimating experience with 5+ years leading estimates for major capital projects. Experience across project development and execution phases (i.e., Stage 1 to stage 4) Experience in energy, midstream, oil & gas, utilities, and petrochemical. Experience managing contractor-generated estimates and estimate validations.
