Assistant Head Nurse

Your Opportunity: This exciting opportunity is located at Manning Community Health center, a rural hospital in northern Alberta – 6 hours north of Edmonton. Reporting to the Care Manager, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordinating of patient care activities in a combined facility - Acute Care, Emergency and Long-Term Care units. The Clinical Coordinator assists the Care Manager with planning, organizing, supervising, directing and evaluating the provision of care and programs on the nursing unit, as well as direct patient care and assignments. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Description: As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Ability to function independently, as well as on a team;. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Ability to organize time and resources effectively; Ability to recognize situations in which counsel is required; Ability to be flexible in response to changed situations; Demonstrates sound problem solving and decision-making skills. High level of initiative and accountability; Evidence of ability to make sound judgements; Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills; Evidence of maturity, diplomacy and tact. Strong computer skills and asset. Preferred Qualifications: Emergency room experience an asset. Recent nursing in a rural community setting an asset. Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred.

The Assistant Head Nurse coordinates day-to-day patient care activities across Acute Care, Emergency, and Long-Term Care units. They lead nursing staff, manage assignments, and implement operational priorities to ensure safe, quality patient-centered care.

Candidates must have completed an accredited nursing program, hold a valid CRNA practice permit, and possess BCLS-HCP certification. Preferred qualifications include experience in emergency rooms, rural community settings, and previous supervisory roles.
