Your Opportunity: Make a difference in the lives of children and families by joining the Unit 4 team at Alberta Children’s Hospital. Unit 4 is a 27-bed unit accepting patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations on Unit 4 can include general pediatric medicine, general surgery, trauma, brain injury, orthopedics, plastic surgery, endocrinology, metabolics, eating disorders, mental health and overflow oncology. As a Unit 4 HCA, and under the supervision of an approved Health Care Provider, you will provide ongoing supervision and care for the physical, psychological, and emotional/ social needs of children, youths and families admitted to Unit 4 within a framework of Patient/Family Centered Care. Unit 4 provides a variety of opportunities for growth and learning in an engaging pediatric care environment. The successful candidate will be able to develop a variety of pediatric skills while working in a supportive learning environment. The incumbent may be required to work in other care areas of the hospital as needed. Description: As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement. Additional Required Qualifications: Current CPR-BCLS. Current N95 fit testing. Non-violence crisis intervention (NVCI) course. Demonstrated proficiency with computers (i.e., Connect Care, Microsoft Office including emails). Must consistently demonstrate AHS’ core values. Minimum one year experience within the last five working in some capacity with children. Experience working within an interdisciplinary team. Previous experience in a health care environment. Ability to work under time constraints, within fast paced changing environments. Ability to communicate fluently both verbal and written in English. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Previous experience in working with mental health and/or eating disorder patients. Exceptional organizational, time management, and prioritization skills are preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated strong flexibility and adaptability skills. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the varied needs of children, families and colleagues. A compassionate and caring attitude that conveys compassion, respect, and dignity for all people. Demonstrated initiative, accountability and problem-solving ability within the scope of the role.

Requirements
Requires HCA certification or eligibility for registration with the CLHA and current CPR-BCLS and N95 fit testing. Candidates must have at least one year of experience working with children and proficiency in computer systems like Connect Care.
