Job summary

LES is a provincial team that is committed to providing supportive patient and resident care through timely and effective portering, cleaning and linen services. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and visitor experience. You possess strong customer service, teamwork, the ability to work alone, and prioritizing skills. The successful candidate also has a patient-first approach and is able to follow oral and written instructions. Motor coordination and hand-eye coordination are needed, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment which may be stressful at times. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Description: As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. Additional Required Qualifications: Critical thinking, prioritizing requests, and scheduling time as necessary. Under supervision the employee performs routine duties including but not limited to transporting patients, supplies, waste, bio and equipment within the hospital in accordance with established work methods and procedures. Clean patient rooms, public areas and equipment within the hospital. Our goal within the Portering Department is to create the best patient experience and to ensure we follow all IPC guidelines regarding infectious diseases. The individual must have the ability to work in a team environment and or independently. You must have 2 years of experience portering patients and moving equipment. Preference given to candidates with open availability to cover varying operational hours. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of hospital procedures and equipment operation. Previous hospital experience is an asset. Previous related job experience. A valid WHMIS certificate is an asset. Basic computer proficiency and experience with Connect Care. Trained in the “Move Safe” ergonomic program and the “It’s Your Move” client handling program.
