Performs interventions under the direction of and as delegated by the Recreation Therapist in accordance with established standards and procedures of the Recreation Therapy Department. Provides a broad range of individual and group activities that are developed to meet the residents' needs under the guidance of the Recreation Therapist. Drives the Handibus when required for community outings. Assists residents in getting ready for community outings when off site. Works collaboratively with other staff, families, and volunteers. Assist residents with toileting and personal care as required when off site. Note: Nanton is 70 km south of Calgary. Description: As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program. Requirements
The position requires completion of Grade 12 and current CPR certification, along with experience in a supportive living setting and with clients who have dementia. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
